For consumers
If you own a residential pool that's filled (or partly filled) with water, it must have physical barriers that restrict access to the pool by unsupervised children under 5. These barriers need to be inspected every 3 years.

Your rights and obligations
All residential pools need to be inspected every three years to ensure that the pool’s barriers comply with the Building Act 2004. These inspections can be carried out by territorial authorities or by an independently qualified pool inspector.

Making a complaint
You can complain about a person who is a current or former independently qualified pool inspector. Complaints may lead to a pool inspector being disciplined.
